Small Ship Design Project
This undergraduate Ship Design class project focused on developing a modern iteration of the highly successful USCG Motor Lifeboat. The design maintained key operational requirements of the original vessel, including self-righting capability and specific sea-state performance criteria, while significantly extending the operational range to three times that of the original design.
The vessel was designed and rendered in Rhino 3D over the course of one semester, incorporating design elements from its predecessor while implementing modern improvements. The comprehensive design process included:
- General arrangement planning
- Weight and center calculations
- Resistance and range analysis
- Powering requirements
- Stability analysis
